The short answer. There is no universal sheet mask frequency. For a hydrating mask, once a week is a simple baseline. The product's own directions and how your skin feels afterward decide whether to keep that pace, and using a mask more often is not automatically better for your skin.
Pick a schedule by situation
| Situation | A reasonable approach | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Once-weekly reset | One hydrating mask a week, on a calm evening, for the time on the pack | Skin should feel comfortable afterward. That is the whole goal. |
| Pre-event or makeup prep | One mask the night before or the morning of, within the stated wear time | Pat in the leftover essence and let it settle before makeup. |
| Considering more often | Stay within the product directions and add one session at a time | Any tightness, redness, or new breakouts are a reason to return to weekly. |
| Reducing or stopping | Skip masking while skin is irritated, and stop if a mask stings or burns | Burning, swelling, a rash, or discomfort that worsens means stop and see a clinician. |
How to use the Baegayul Moisture Balancing Mask
The box holds 10 sheets. After toner, unfold the sheet and smooth it over clean skin. Leave it on for fifteen to twenty minutes, then remove, pat in the remaining essence, and follow with moisturizer. We position it as a weekly reset, so one box covers about ten weeks at that pace. Do not wear it longer than the directions say in the hope of getting more from it.
What the evidence does and does not say
A 2024 randomized study of healthy volunteers compared three sheet-mask types (water, hyaluronan, and a ferment lysate) worn for 5, 15, 25, or 40 minutes and measured short-term skin hydration, water loss, sebum, and reactions. It reported that short sessions under 25 minutes increased measured hydration, while longer wear was linked to more dryness and redness, especially with water-only masks. It was not a study of any Baegayul product, and it did not test weekly frequency, so it cannot prove a universal schedule or a Baegayul result. What it supports is modest: keep a session inside the stated wear time and under 25 minutes, and do not assume longer is better. It measured short-term hydration only, not barrier repair or any medical outcome.
What customers say, including the objections
In the reviews we publish, the recurring themes are a sheet that arrives saturated (drenched, not damp), weekly use, makeup prep, and leftover essence. One Amazon US reviewer wrote that "there is plenty of serum left in the package to put on your face after". A makeup artist on Amazon called the masks "perfect for prepping skin before makeup". A Korean store reviewer described using it "once or twice a week" and said the sheet "fits close". These are directional customer descriptions, not clinical evidence.
Not every note is positive. Fit and cutouts are the most common objection: one reviewer wrote that "the forehead part comes up a bit short", while another with a narrow forehead said it "sits exactly right", so fit depends on your face. One reviewer said "the sheet slips down a bit", and another said the essence sat on the skin briefly before absorbing. Results vary from person to person, and a mask that fits one face well can hang over or fall short on another.
When to stop
Stop using any sheet mask, and see a licensed clinician rather than adjusting your schedule, if you notice burning, swelling, a rash, or discomfort that keeps getting worse. A cosmetic mask is meant to feel comfortable; it is not a treatment for irritated skin.
Why we keep the objections visible
In an interview with the Korean review platform Hwahae, founder Dr. Jo Seok-yong described how the brand developed the mask by reading the reviews of top-ranked products for what customers still found lacking, then validated the product through candid user feedback rather than the strengths the brand wanted to advertise. That is why this page quotes the fit and slipping complaints alongside the praise. The interview is linked in the sources below.
